Park Pictures

Happy Tuesday all! I hope everyone is having a great week. Mine is alright...it will be better on Friday @ 5:00pm. I had mentioned in a previous blog entry that I got to take some pictures of my sister's kids at the park. There was this creepy old guy at the park. He was in his 40's and he was swinging on a swing. He kept talking to the kids. I thought that it was super creepy. Suffice to say we watched the kids like a hawk until he left.

One of the things I love about taking pictures is getting to work with them in Photoshop. I know most Photographers like to do batch editing, meaning editing a bunch of pictures at once. However; I'm not a "Photographer" and I think that each picture should be tweaked on its own. What works for one picture doesn't always work for another. Although I'm sure when you are amazing at photography then you don't need to edit the pictures as much as I do. This is totally just a hobby for me. I love playing around with my new toy and then making the picture better in PS.

Anyway, here are some of the pictures I took last weekend.

Hope you enjoy,
BriannaNichole!

Hi! I absolutely love both of your blogs, and stay up way too late trying out all of your tutorials! lol I have a few questions: 1. What kind of camera do you have, and what do you recommend purchasing? 2. In a few of the pictures above it seems as if the background is "smokey" almost, but the object of the picture is still clear. Id this done with the soft focus/blur tools?

Thanks so much! You really do ROCK!

Hi Jen! Thanks for the compliments. I have a Cannon E510 Digital SLR Camera. I am by no means an expert at camera. I just went with what was in my price range and what the guy recommended at the store.

The smoky look on the edges of the photo is a vignette. Its pretty easy to do. If you have PS CS3 or 2 you can do a lens correction and set it there. There are a few other ways to do it too. I will create a tutorial on it so you can have the settings.

I'm really confused. Are you saying its inappropriate for me to hang out at parks in my old man costume and talk to kids? I think if you have a problem with how I spend my weekends you should discuss it directly with me.

I will wait patiently for your tutorial to see if the vingnettes can do more than I think! To be more specific, the look of picture #12. I just love it. It looks almost trapped in time.... lol! Thanks so much!

I use Boutwells Totally Rad and IMO its not cheating - its a speed enhancement and even then, you still have to go back and adjust things. There is no 100% step "fix all." If you look at their blog and go back a few pages, you'll see the "recipe cards" for several photographers and you'll notice none of them just slap actions on and call it a day...

And you may want to check out Lightroom for more photo editing love. I use it for tweaking photos when I don't want to use the great resource hog that Photoshop can be.

Kelli,
I don't think its cheating for people like you and I, but when you charge so much for Photography it just doesn't sit right with me. Again its JMO....for whatever that is worth.
